Rachel Moebus is an author based in Perth, Western Australia. Her writing is informed by her own experience of childhood grief after witnessing the death of her four-year-old brother, Peter, who was killed after being hit by a car when Rachel was eight years old.

Drawing on that experience, Rachel wrote Footprints Through Grief to create the resource she wished she had as a child. Through practical activities and gentle guidance, the book helps children and families navigate loss, understand their emotions, and honour the memories of those they love.

She wrote this book for every child navigating a loss too big to carry alone, and for Peter, whose short life continues to leave footprints in everything she creates.

The workbook was created to gently support children and young people who have experienced the death of a loved one. Grief for them can look and feel different from grief in adults. It may come and go, show up in play, questions, behaviour, or quiet moments, and can change as they grow.

There is no need to complete this workbook in order or all at once. Skip pages, return to activities, or repeat what feels comforting. The workbook is meant to be a companion, not something to finish.

You do not have to have all the answers. Often, the most helpful support is simply being present, listening, and allowing feelings to exist without trying to fix them. Some activities may bring up big emotions. Gentle reassurance and breaks are encouraged.

The workbook is not a replacement for professional support. If a child or young person shows ongoing distress or feels unsafe, seek additional help. Support services and helplines are included in the workbook.

Reviews of Footprints Through Grief

I feel so privileged to be included in your journey from the manuscript stage to publication.

I absolutely loved everything about the book. One word to describe it is “AMAZING”.

You have covered every stage of the grief process in such a gentle way that children and
adults will be able to understand the different ways to help overcome the grief and at the
same time have the treasured memories of their loved one close to them forever.

The graphics are beautiful.

I look forward to the publication of your book, and it becomes a best seller.

This book is incredibly thoughtful and insightful. I loved how gentle and encouraging this each activity is, and it provides great information for parents/carers on how to assist with grief and big feelings.

Rachel, what you have created is truly wonderful.

Footprints Through Grief shines as a true work of the soul.

Crafted with profound compassion, kindness and a deep understanding of childhood grief, this book is filled with thoughtful activities designed to acknowledge complicated feelings in little hearts.

Few resources hit the mark as perfectly as this workbook does.

Thank You for being willing to share your insight and understanding of loss with children and for helping them navigate their journey.
