Author
Helen took up writing historical romances in retirement after a lifetime in which she was a farmer’s wife, teacher, psychologist, and sociologist working mostly in rural Australia.
Helen won an A.N.A. poetry prize as a teenager, followed by the Chiron Prize for Verse and the Lee Steere Award for History while a student at Claremont Teachers Training College. She wrote professionally throughout her working life, gave talks and ran workshops.
Her major interest has been helping others.
Helen still enjoys growing and processing food and enjoys contact with a wide range of friends and relatives.
Her first novel, Marvellous Miss Markham, is an historical romance set in England during the reign of George IV.
Extensively researched, this novel explores our very human need to belong. It has been followed by two further novels... so far.
Helen writes under the pen name 'Helen BeDe'.

REVIEW
High praise indeed for Marvellous Miss Markam. Reviewed by an avid reader and long time member of a book club.
"This book was a lovely surprise.
I became completely immersed in the life of Laura Markham and the Village of Monthrope with its varied and diverse characters. It felt like I was watching a BBC production and when turning to the last page felt rather deflated. There is intrigue, adventure and romance to keep the reader interested and one becomes reluctant to place the book down to attend to other of life's important duties, in particular, sleep… Well written, well researched and I can’t wait for the release of Helen BeDe's next novel."
